Take me back to the Nissan Stagea menu for all blog posts.
Last time we spoke about changing the front seats in the Stagea.
You might also be interested in our Project Moff Race car build too ?
Next on the list was to uprate the brakes. The standard Stagea brakes don’t seem quite seem powerful enough for such a heavy car, especially when we are planning to use the car on the track.
Here are the standard Front and rear brakes.
So we are going to upgrade the standard Nissan Stagea RS Four brakes with Brembos from an R33 GTR Nissan Skyline.
Once removed, we could make a start on fitting the new ones.
Are they a direct fit ? Yes. Apart from some playing about with the brake lines, as long as you get the mounting bolts from the GTR too. We did have to cut / bend out of the way the stone guards as these new discs are larger. We didn’t get any photos of doing this unfortunately, but if you compare the before and after pics you’ll see the slight difference.
Here are some photos of the 2 next to each other for comparison
Rears
Fronts
As you can see, there is quite a size difference.
The Standard Nissan Stagea disc sizes are :
Front – 280mm
Rear – 280mm
The Nissan Skyline R33 GTR Standard discs sizes are
Front – 320mm
Rear – 297mm
The new Brembo calipers will also have double the number of pistons too. Going from 1 on each caliper rear to 2, and from 2 pistons on the front to 4. This will give much more effective braking, and with the larger discs, it will take much more energy to overheat the discs.
The discs and pads that we fitted are also brembo.
Looks much better !
Overall, from start to finish, including bleeding the brakes, cleaning the calipers, spending time lining things up for photos, having a sandwich for lunch and the usual stuff, it took us around 5 hours to do.
Are the new brakes any better… well, in a word, absolutely ! They also look much nicer. We have some nice new BBS LM’s to go on soon too… We’ll get some pics of how the brakes sit in the wheels soon..
Until the next time
