Sometimes the simple things catch you out ! When you have bonnet pins, make sure they are down before setting off ! Luckily we had finished racing around the track for the day. As you can see from the photos below, it has caused quite some damage !
Bonnet pins broken, all the bonnet bracing cracked, bonnet corners broken, and the windscreen is cracked !
We needed to see the full extent of any damage under the plasti dip, lucily enough it is quite easy to remove. Grab a corner and peel off..
Thank you to A-Plan who insure the car for their help in getting Auto Windscreens in to sort the glass change over.
The screen on the car was last replaced around 10 years ago, and we can see there is some rust treatment needed
So, while the screen is out, it’s a good time to replace the windscreen with a heated version, get some A pillar gussets added to the roll cage, and treat some of the rust areas. The car is now 21 years old !
Firstly the run treatment. We have used various hammerite products in the past with good results, so continuing to use it !
We took the areas of the frame back to bare metal, before treating and then sealing.
Next its on to marking out the gussets and pressing the holes
Prep the area, as welding can cause fires, the car was protected
An outstanding result, I’m sure you’ll agree. Quality of the welds is excellent !
Huge Thank You to John at Tylah Motorsport. Outstanding work !
Auto windscreens then popped back to refit the new heated front screen. Why a heated from screen I hear you ask. Well. We still have the blowers in the car (but not heating system). On wet days, it can still be difficult stopping the front screen from steaming up. A heated front screen for the Nissan Skyline will stop this from happening !
New heated front windscreen fitted. One question which will probably be asked is 'what external trim did you use?'. We have just used a universal one. Some say they don't fit, some say they do. We are in the 'they do' camp. We did have an experienced fitter, maybe that can be the difference !?
The wires you see below are the wires to power the heated screen. We’ll send the car down to Abbey Motorsport with a list of other items soon, once we have had some tweaks made to the exhaust.
Next we need to repair the bonnet pins, bonnet and a few other tidy up items !
See you all soon ! :)
