Last time we spoke about Fitting New HID kit / Radiator Brackets / Induction pipework.
In this this issue, we are going to talk about fitting our new dash, ready for the RB26 Link G4 install, and our new simple but effective rear diff oil catch can.
The current dash set up with all the gauges we have had for some years, and it was time for a new look.
As we are soon to have a Link G4 ECU fitted, which we will also have all of the additional sensors included too (which is best part of 2 days of wiring), we won’t need to keep an eye on gauges any more. The reason for this ? The Link G4 will be set to reduce engine revs, should it pick up low oil pressure, fuel pressure, or other parameters, such as high water and oil temps.
We will have the HKS Boost gauge, and Abbey Motorsport are going to wire up all of the Skyline standard gauges.
Currently in the car are a Mixture of Greddy and HKS gauges. Greddy ones are EGT (Exhaust Gas Temp), Oil Presure, Oil Temperature, Water temp. The HKS gauge is to display boost. We are also going to remove the boost controller and the Turbo Timer.
The reason being is the new Link G4 Ecu is going to control boost, and the Turbo timer just isn’t needed to automatically turn the car off. Time to remove it all
In order to make the new dash, we started with a cardboard template to get a rough guide on what we are after.
We then marked this over the ally sheet we started with
Once cut out, we started to shape it
To tidy up the edges, we ran a blade down the edge of some rubber pipe, so that it slots over, to make the edges very neat.
We wanted to give the new dash a subtle original appeal, so what we decided to do, was see if we would incorporate the old plastic dash surround trim.

Now all the parts were cut, time to put it all together. The below you can see our new switch panel. We have an ignition button, Fighter jet stylee !
To the right of that is the push button start button. What we have done with this is a little different. When the battery is connected, the start button will always crank the engine. This will allow us to build oil pressure, before turning on the ignition to start the engine. The 3 switches to the right, currently are not wired up.
We are going to use them to 1. Turn on the rain light, 2. Turn back light on for boost gauge, and 3. We will probably use for some strobes in the front, to make us more visible to cars we are looking to pass on the circuit !
You will notice, to the left of the HKS Boost gauge is a 12 position switch. This is going to be used with our Link G4 ECU to turn up our boost level (which in turn increases or decreases the engine power mode)
Overall we are happy with the finish. We think it retains some of the original Nissan Design. For the keener eyed of you. You will probably notice that the clock hasn’t been refitted. Slight error in what we did. The bracket for the top mounting swtiches bends too close to the mounting for the clock, so we will need to look at that again and change the design a little.
As we have fitted a Nismo Pro S rear Diff, with an extended rear sump, there is a lot of fluid splashed around, and with the amount of heat created, some oil is going to find its way out of the standard breather pipe. All we fitted was some 8mm rubber pipe, run it up through the boot floor, in to our home made catch can. Monster Energy cans have a multitude of uses it appears. Plus with our thing about colours being red and black, coke zero cans didn’t quite have the same appeal !
Another benefit of this, will make it easier to refill the diff with oil. All we would need to do is remove the top drain plug and fill it back through this pipe Why fit a catch can ? Without one, all of the fluid would be pushed out of the breather and eventually on to the road / track causing danger to others, not to mention the rear differential running low on oil, which would create extra heat, and eventually lead to failure of differential parts.
The breather pipe runs right to the bottom of the catch can. What this means is, as the diff oil warms up, expands, and is pushed in to the catch can, the opposite will happen as it cools. The oil will contract and pull it back in to the diff casing.
